PHOENIX CARDIAC CATH LAB BEATS NATIONAL & 5 STAR
AVERAGE
In Hospital Mortality Rate
for Cardiac Interventional Procedures Significantly Lower
Phoenix (March 26, 2001)
- HealthGrades is a marketing research firm that measures the quality of care
provided by the nation’s hospitals based on objective, risk-adjusted outcome
data.
Per HealthGrades’ quality
measurement, a spokesman notes that Advanced Cardiac Specialists’ hospital
mortality rate for cardiac interventional procedures, [then located] at Phoenix
Memorial Hospital, is 2.04%. This is
significantly below the national average of 2.53% and even better than HealthGrades’ five-star rated hospital
average of 2.42%. This makes outcomes
about 25% better than the national average of hospitals performing such
services and 20% better than the “best” hospitals performing such
procedures. This makes the Advanced
Cardiac Specialists’ catheterization facility [then housed at] Phoenix Memorial
Hospital a “premier” site nationwide.
HealthGrades’ ratings are
based on Medicare’s MEDPAR data, supplemented by data from 16 states that also
maintain databases on all inpatient services.
HealthGrades provides rating of up to five stars on several hospital
specialty services.
Cardiac interventional
procedures are used to remove blockage from arteries through procedures such as
angioplasty.
Advanced Cardiac Specialists is a statewide Cardiovascular and Internal Medicine practice headed by Robert M. Siegel, M.D., Medical Director and Board Certified Interventional Cardiologist.
