Additionally,
we perform multiplane transesophageal echocardiography using General
Electrics (GE) System FiVe technology. This is a semi-invasive
procedure performed by a cardiologist in the office setting, where a flexible
probe is passed into the esophagus of a sedated patient, and images of the heart
are obtained in multiple planes. This gives us a better and more complete
visualization of the heart and helps to vividly profile significant ischemic,
valvular and vascular pathology with a high degree of diagnostic confidence. |
ACS is one of a handful of
facilities in the state of Arizona performing transcranial Doppler (TCD)
studies. This consists of visualizing and evaluating blood flow within the
brain, to help assess damage from strokes, carotid artery disease and other
causes.
Digital
Ultrasound Technology
ACS has become one of the first
sites in the state of Arizona to switch to all-digital ultrasound
technology with the acquisition of eight of General Electrics Vingmed System
FiVe imaging ultrasound systems for noninvasive vascular studies. This
machine has a unique all-digital platform capable of handling cardiac and
vascular imaging with "intelligent tissue-specific sensitivities.
The system gives access to raw digital acoustic image data, and therefore to
echocardiographic information of the highest quality. It also has a
comprehensive contrast-imaging package and contrast-perfusion research software.
The system includes several path-breaking technologies such as Anatomical
M-Mode, Quantitative Tissue Velocity Imaging and Coded Octave Imaging,
creating the highest resolution and clarity in ultrasound testing available
today.
Technical
Quality
All tests are performed by
technologists skilled and proficient in the latest techniques, and registered
with the American Registry of
Diagnostic
Medical Sonographers (ARDMS). The technologists regularly attend
Continuing Medical Education programs and receive special training in the latest
advances in technology and techniques, as they become available. This is
reflected in the consistently high quality of tests performed at our offices.
The cardiologist on-site reviews every test and preliminary results are usually
available the same day.
ICAEL
Lab Accreditation
Advanced Cardiac Specialists is
proud to be an ICAEL-accredited ultrasound facility (the accreditation covers
cardiologists, technologists and equipment) for adult cardiac ultrasound testing
in echocardiography, all types of stress echocardiography and multiplane
transesophageal echocardiography. The ICAEL (Intersocietal Commission for
Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories) accreditation is in recognition
of ACS commitment to patient care and its provision of diagnostic testing of
a high standard. The laboratory is one of the first 140 echocardiography
laboratories in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico to be so recognized.
We share this achievement with only one other site in the entire southwest.
The ICAEL is an independent
agency established with the support of the American College of Cardiology, the
American Society of Echocardiography and the Society of Pediatric
Echocardiography.
Additional
Tests
Other tests performed in the
non-invasive department include routine 12-lead EKG, treadmill exercise testing,
24-hour continuous EKG monitoring (Holter), event-recorder monitoring, and
signal-averaged EKG (detects
abnormal late potentials on a specialized EKG recording, which could
predict the risk for sudden cardiac death in high-risk individuals).
Ankle-arm index estimation, a test to diagnose obstructive arterial disease in
the legs, is available at all offices.
Thus, ACS is in a unique position where we can offer a
comprehensive medical program of timely consultation, state-of-the-art
cardiac testing, diagnosis and management by experienced caregivers, all
available on-site, the same day, resulting in a complete, cost-effective and
all encompassing circle of quality care.
